Axalta unveils the refinish industry’s first fully automated colour mixing process via Daisy Wheel 3.0
Basel, Switzerland, 22 June 2021 – Axalta (NYSE: AXTA), a leading global supplier of liquid and powder coatings, today announced it will make available pre-filled bottles of basecoat from its industry leading premium refinish brands for Fillon Technologies’ new Daisy Wheel 3.0, enabling fully automated colour mixing for the first time. Combined with Axalta’s cloud-based Digital Colour Management, bodyshops across EMEA will have access to the fastest and most productive paint process available.
Daisy Wheel, the first 100% fully-automatic mixing machine, is the most efficient mixing process among bodyshops in the global refinish market. The machine offers better accuracy on the production of “ready to use” colours, reducing consumption and avoiding waste. Thanks to its extremely high dosing accuracy (+/- 0.05 g), colour preparation is accurate and clean, thereby limiting risks to the environment and the user’s health. With the next generation of the Daisy Wheel, Axalta customers will get the added benefits of fully automated mixing thanks to prefilled, ready-to-use bottles.
“Our fully automated mixing makes the whole process straightforward, easy and fast , which allows our customers to gain tremendous efficiency and maximise booth cycle time,” said Troy Weaver, Senior Vice President Global Refinish at Axalta. “We choose to innovate with the Daisy Wheel because of its unrivalled colour accuracy, colour matching abilities and wide-ranging adoption by bodyshops everywhere.”
Axalta’s cloud-based Digital Colour Management enables bodyshops to handle the entire colour retrieval process not only completely digitally, but also 100% wirelessly – something that Axalta brought to the industry first in 2019. Now, this technology connects directly to the Daisy Wheel 3.0, making the entire process even more straightforward and easy. Together they reduce process time by more than 50% eliminating any time-consuming colour matching or colour mixing bottlenecks that large, busy bodyshops can ill afford.
“This ground-breaking innovation is set to save bodyshops significant time, helping to achieve better key-to-key times, to limit waste thanks to the exact dosing of Daisy Wheel 3.0, and to improve productivity substantially as refinishers will be working faster and more accurately,” said Weaver.
By addressing a clear need from refinishers, Axalta has redefined what is possible for bodyshops by providing the tremendously popular and highly productive Cromax® Pro Basecoat, Permahyd® Hi-TEC Basecoat 480 and Standoblue Basecoat in pre-filled bottles for use in Daisy Wheel 3.0, hence raising the bar for Cromax®, Spies Hecker and Standox bodyshops.
Axalta has been at the forefront of coatings technology for more than 150 years. The end markets Axalta serves are among the most demanding in the coatings industry, requiring high levels of product performance, with increasing expectations for productivity and environmentally responsible products. By aligning its technology efforts to meet these high expectations, Axalta is driving change in coatings innovation.
Fully automated mixing with Daisy Wheel 3.0 will be available beginning in September 2021. Interested bodyshops should contact their local Axalta Refinish representative for more details.
